Spanish Police Officer Killed in France on Anti-Terror Mission

A Spanish police force military officer was killed
and his spouse seriously wounded in a shot in Capbreton,
France today, the Gallic Inside Ministry said.

The two military officers were on a joint Franco-Spanish anti-
terrorist surveillance mission, the Paris-based ministry said in
an e-mailed statement. The two were shot around 9 a.m. local
time. Capbreton is near the Basque part that encompasses parts
of French Republic and Spain.

Basque terrorist grouping eta in June declared an end to a
year-old ceasefire after peace negotiation with the Spanish government
of Prime Curate Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero failed.

On Oct. Nine the escort of a local politician was injured
when a bomb attached to his auto exploded in Bilbao, northern
Spain, years after police force arrested leading members of the banned
Basque breakaway party, Batasuna.
